Skull, Bones, and Deadpan have arrived at the Old Hackmore Place. They get there just in time, for yet another youngster has entered the house on yet another dare. The Boogeyman appears from within a bedroom closet and pursues the child through the derelict mansion. But before the monster can claim his victim, Skull, Bones and Deadpan bust in through the windows and beat him upside his slimy green head with some wrought iron fireplace pokers. The iron scorches the Boogeyman's skin and sends him running. When they see him, our heroes realize they were correct in guessing the monster's true identity. The Boogeyman is really an unseelie or evil Fae called a Bucca Dhu or "Bugaboo"; he belongs to an aquatic subspecies that resembles merpeople with legs. But before they can attack him again, the creature grabs Deadpan and escapes to another world through another closet. Not knowing what else to do, Skull and Bones jump through the closet door in hot pursuit.
